Completely loved reading your thoughts on this topic. You're so right that today's idea of success = entrepreneur life and doing away with the status quo. Of course we should all be raging against capitalism BUT there's a lot to be said for the stability of a traditional job and the freedom that THAT gives you, I think. This post has been a sweet reminder of that, so thank you! I left freelancing after six years and it was the most freeing experience after starting to really struggle with promoting myself/my business all the time, juggling all the admin and invoicing, and just the uncertainty of things. There is so much freedom into just being able to sink into the bit you enjoy without the stress/promotion/admin. It’s funny the stories we end up telling ourselves about what freedom really means to us as an individual!
It's definitely been a long path to get here! I thought working for myself was THE goal and I honestly harboured so much guilt and shame when leaving that all behind. But, honestly? I feel so much more creative now in a funny way. I get to work specific hours, then squirrel away at my little concoction of creativity in all of the other hours! Always here if you need a chat during the transitional period.
This is so refreshing and honestly so validating. The last 12 months of trying to make self-employment work has been the hardest of my life and I have felt like I’ve failed myself or felt stupid for not being able to make it work but realising that it’s not stupid to have “failed” but stupid to keep forcing something that I can clearly see isn’t working. Thank you for sharing and congratulations!! ❤️❤️
