Sunday 13th October | Issue #03
Sometimes it shocks me how fast time passes, mostly when I find myself in a pattern of doing something regularly. Writing this post on a Sunday knits together how quickly the week passes, yet so much has happened within and there's always something to harp on about. An odd thing, at times so fast, at times so slow.
I’ve woken up a few mornings this week incredibly chilly, and like clockwork, I’ve checked the thermostat to see if it is finally time I could remotely consider cracking it up a notch. But, no. I have my limits and apparently, it’s still a solid 18 degrees in the confines of the house, I think it’s lying personally.
We’re always so quick to romanticise autumn, the cooling of the days, knitwear, cosy meals, and hot drinks galore. But, it’s so easy to forget how quickly you’ll miss such basic things about summer: being able to get out the warm confines of your bed in the morning without bribing yourself with tea, getting out the shower without scrambling to immediately put all of the layers on in fear of your toes lopping off, being able to open your backdoor without the threat of daddy long legs, not needing to worry if it’s jumper, jacket or coat weather every time you leave the house (the list could go on).
Anyway, apart from small gripes of feeling a little chilly, this week has been good. I find it hard to pull myself away from my desk, forever at one’s mercy of hyperfixation. But, I did actually add an extra day onto the weekend this week, and I think I picked the perfect day. Friday was picturesque, blue skies, and sunshine. A wholesome day pulling up the last of the autumn harvest and sowing some hardy winter seeds (peas, broccoli, radish and spring onion).
Also in my notes I wrote that I did also collect some blackberries and sloes that I found on my dog walk, I had forgotten to take a sandwich bag, so instead used a (clean) dog poo bag. My partner looked a little perplexed when I wielded it, and threw it so casually onto the kitchen worktop when I returned home. Needs must, right?

This week in links
I’ve seen a lot of Adam Brody content, I’m here for it. Seth Cohen was the entire basis for my ideal man growing up, so I will be lapping any and all write-ups. This one by Polly Vernon, ‘Why does everybody in the world fancy Adam Brody right now?’ was a particularly enjoyable read.
I didn’t realise how much comedic writing was missing from my life. What I’m scared about when staying with friends will give you a much-needed laugh, I promise.
I’m baking this pumpkin ginger cake today, so long as I can hunt down the pumpkin puree. Send me all the well-stocked shelves luck.
Forever a sucker for new apps, I saw a TikTok talking about Fable as a replacement for Goodreads, so of course I’ve jumped ship. I’ve never been a huge fan of Goodreads anyway, so it didn’t take a lot of convincing.
I’ve been sowing all the seeds for the past couple of weeks, this weekend I turned my seed sowing to Sweet Peas. Whether you’re a confident gardener or not, these are always a good place to start.
Entertaining bits
Watch: I devoured Sweetpea this week (a common theme of the week, clearly). I described it in a text as murderous fun. Watching Ella Purnell’s character rapidly descend from being an anxious wallflower to a confident serial killer was, well, a lot of fun.
Watch some more: - Honestly, the TikTok algorithm has nailed my film taste. Earlier this week I was served a video about a film called It’s What’s Inside, which was somewhat likened to Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. Honestly? It’s so much better. Trippy, who-done-it fun with a great use of RGB filters. Over on Netflix if you fancy.
Book: Call me cliche, but Sally Rooney’s writing has really shaped my reading taste. Ever since I first read Normal People all those many years ago, I had my eyes opened to literature that spoke to me. So, this month was an exciting one when my copy of Intermezzo* arrived. I finished it this week, I feel like it’s due a proper review but I will say this, it feels different but the same. Writing so good you’re drawn to the next sentence again and again, but an exciting departure from some usual Rooney themes.
One last thing
Two requests really; I struggle to find podcasts, and I feel like I’m consistently served up ones that feel too overly produced on Spotify. I’d love some recommendations, I’m easy on context, perhaps reading, culture, lifestyle etc.
And also, autumnal reads. Books that feel like autumn, even if it’s just the setting. I’m trying to find some to fit this season.
Hopefully, you enjoyed this post, if you did it would mean the world if you could share or restack it. Thank you!
Have a lovely Sunday, Allie ☁️
